If you've lived in the Deep South for any length of time, you've most likely seen vintage barns with the phrase "See Rock City" painted on the roofs—a true Southern classic!
I remember seeing them as a child, mystified at the wonder that must be Rock City. I imagined that it must be some kind of special place, akin to the Emerald City from the movie Wizard of Oz. I didn't actually get to See Rock City until I was in my mid-30s.
It was every bit wonderful, with stunning views for miles. And my hopes for finding kitsch were not dashed in the least! In fact it was over-the-top, featuring more gnomes than one could count. Seriously, if you have not seen Rock City, you owe it to yourself to go there on a crisp Fall day to enjoy the colors, along with the experience. You won't be disappointed!
